Pioner Cinema and the Israeli Embassy present the 17th Israeli Film Festival, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel. For an entire month, from 29 July to 29 August, Pioner Open Air in Sokolniki Park will screen Israeli film. The festival has taken place in Moscow for many years, but interest in Israel’s films and television shows is only growing. Unique humor, imagery, an inclination toward introspection and the eternal search for identity, and a wide range of subjects have all allowed Israeli film to become one of the most vivid and widely-discussed genres in the world today, while receiving the highest awards and prizes, from the Oscars to Cannes and Venice.

The program for the 17th annual Festival contains the best contemporary Israeli films, a nighttime screening of the popular Israeli TV show “Sleeping Bears,” and talkbacks with directors and screenwriters: Rama Burstein (“The Wedding Plan”) and Eliran Elya (“Doubtful”) will present their own works, as will Shai Lahav (“And Then She Arrived”).

At the ceremonial opening of the festival on 29 July, audiences will see “The Wedding Plan,” a comedy by Rama Burstein, who will personally introduce the film. Guests will also enjoy a performance by Israeli rock group Buckets N Joints.

One of the festival’s special events will be a sneak preview of “Outdoors” – a rare chance to see the Haifa Film Festival winner before anyone else. In addition, the program includes the documentary “Ben-Gurion, Epilogue,” about the founding father of the State of Israel, and the complex drama, “Late Summer Blues.”

All of the Festival’s screenings will take place at Pioner Open Air in Sokolniki Park, where they will be accompanied by performances by Israeli musical groups and Israeli food tastings will take place – from the standard hummus and falafel to rare sweets.

At the Festival’s closing ceremony on 29 August, audiences will see the comedy “And Then She Arrived,” and will have the chance to ask screenwriter Shai Lahav how he came up with an autobiographical story about a lawyer ready to drop everything for the free-spirited woman of his dreams.
