Pioner Cinema » Holidays with Pioner: “Toni Erdmann”

Only at Pioner, on 1, 3, 5, and 7 January – pre-release screenings of “Toni Erdmann,”, a sensation at the last Cannes Film Festival and recognized as the biggest discovery of the year. We already held a screening at Pioner’s seven-year anniversary celebration, but it was impossible to seat everyone who wanted to attend all at once, and we decided to hold several more screenings as a New Year’s surprise!

A former music teacher, party boy, and dreamer, Winfred is desperate to mend his relationship with his adult daughter Ines, a perpetually busy employee of a global corporation. Her father neither sees her, hears from her, or knows anything about her, and even jokes that he has hired somebody to play her role. In order to get her attention, he passes himself off as the eccentric businessman Toni Erdmann and unannounced travels to Bucharest to see his daughter, where she has been assigned to an important project. With his hilarious and shocking escapades that put everyone around him into a stupor, Winfred hopes to win a place in her heart and provoke Ines into a mutual – and no less insane – game.

“Tony Erdmann” is an outstanding comedy, piercing drama, absolute unusual love story, and the most exact and subtle film about fathers and their children in today’s age of breakdown of personal and intergenerational connections. As a result of a poll of members of the international film critics’ association FIPRESSI, the film was named the best film of the year. And recently, the film triumphed at the awards ceremony of the European Film Academy, collecting all the main awards: best film, best director, best screenplay, best actress, and best actor.

The film will be shown several months before its Russian theatrical release.
