The film captures five years from the writer’s life, from 1885 to 1890. This very period was the brightest in his life: Chekhov was becoming famous in publishing circles, writing his first plays, losing his brother, setting off for Sakhalin, and coming to the realization that he had tuberculosis...
Anton Chekhov 1890 is an elegant and freely-adapted biography of the great Russian writing, shot by the master of the “biopic,” René Féret (“The Story of Paul,” “Mozart’s Sister”). Anton Chekhov is played by Nicolas Giraud (“The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec”), and his brother Alexander is played by Brontes Jodorowsky (the son of director Alejandro Jodorowsky). Furthermore, the 24-year old rising star of French cinema, Jenna Thiam, plays Chekhov’s lover, Lika Mizinova.
