Our protagonist, the talented writer Filippok, is weathering the frightful years of revolution and war together with his country. He overcomes these hardships thanks to his unrequited love for the commissar’s widow Zina, who thriftily manages his career while never hesitating to have affairs with other men… This is an epic love story from the classic exemplar of Russian film and the Leningrad school, Ilya Averbakh, a master of delicate and lyrical cinematography.
The film will be shown in 35 mm print.
