On Thursday, 14 January, Roman Volobuev will discuss his directorial debut, “The Cold Front,” with audiences at Pioner Cinema as part of the “Director in the House” project.

A couple, long since fallen out of love — Sasha, a girl from a rich family, and her boyfriend Ilya — decide to spend the winter holidays in a beach house in the north of France, cut off from the outside world. On New Year’s Eve, two seemingly unrelated events occur: the carcass of an animal unknown to science is tossed up on the beach by the waves, not far from the protagonists’ home, and the very same evening, Ilya encounters a strange figure in their neighbourhood: Masha, a Russian girl, who claims to have accidentally gotten off her train at the wrong station and has nowhere to spend the night. There’s obviously something off about Masha, but Ilya and Sasha, carried away as they sort out their relationship, don’t notice at first the ominous oddities in the behaviour of their uninvited guest.

The feature film directing debut by former Afisha film critic Roman Volobuev. The screenplay was written by the director in collaboration with the leading actresses — Svetlana Ustinova (“Boomer-2”) and Dasha Charusha (“Dead Daughters”). This is new Russian cinema as it was meant to be!

The film will be shown in Russian with English subtitles.
