“Faithfulness” is a new film by the progressive Russian director Nigina Sayfullaeva (“What They Call Me” / Kak menya zovut) and winner of a prize at this year’s Kinotavr festival. It is an honest and uncompromising erotic drama about a young couple who acknowledge their true secret desires and passions at a moment of crisis in their personal life. The impossibility to talk through their phobias and pain pushes the young adults into a vortex of intrigue, infidelity, deceit, and violence. The protagonists’ energy only emerges thanks to sexual perversion and lies, and an emotional hurricane unfolds with the coast of Kaliningrad in the background. To that, the director adds the wildest and most uninhibited duet in contemporary Russian film, Alexander Pal and Evgeniya Gromova. “Faithfulness” is everything that you wanted to know about relationships but were afraid to ask.
