On 23 April, Pioner and MasterCard will show the fourth film in their “Priceless Cities of Film” festival – Otar Iosseliani’s “Favorites of the Moon.” The legend of Georgian and French cinema will make a special trip to Moscow to present the film at Pioner. Otar Iosseliani will tell about that storied Paris which has long since ceased to be, but whose image is saved in our collective cultural memory.
The film’s characters are the most eclectic and surprising residents of Paris. An arms trader, a police officer, an engineer, a schoolteacher, a terrorist, their wives and lovers, as well as the eccentric “clochards,” thieves, prostitutes, and even punk rock stars. They are all mixed together in their urban home of Paris, and all tied up with domestic, criminal, and romantic relationships. But here, human connections and destinies are inevitably ruined as our material world starts to decline – symbolized by things like an 18th century tea service and a 19th century painting, all of which fall into this whirlwind of plots, affairs, and manipulations – both legal and otherwise. “Favorites of the Moon” is Otar Iosseliani’s masterpiece, which imprinted Paris with elegance and irony at the intersection between being the capital of the 19th century and a contemporary, globalized village.
Every month there will be specially reworked set menus at Pioner Cinema’s Café Pion, dedicated to the city of the month. MasterCard cardholders can receive a discount on café’s full menu (excluding alcohol) and with purchase of tickets to a screening in the “Priceless Cities in Cinema” festival, they are welcome to a surprise from Pion’s chef.
The film will be projected from the 35mm dubbed original (in Russian).
