A massive iceberg is moving toward the icebreaker “Mikhail Gromov.” The crew manages to avoid a crash, but the maneuver results in the ship drifting off course into an ice field not far from the coast of Antarctica. Now, each uncertain decision threatens the crew with disaster, and both fuel and supplies are running low.
A new film by Nikolai Khomeriki (“Tale in the Darkness,” “Heart’s Boomerang”), based on a true story that occurred on the Soviet icebreaker “Mikhail Somov” in 1985. “Somov” was boxed in by heavy ice floes that threatened to sink the ship. The crew spent 133 days on board.
