On 2 December, as part of the Pioner kids lecture series, we will hold a special screening of a documentary called “Kamchatka Bears. Life Begins” (Medvedi Kamchatki. Nachalo zhizni), by Vladislav Grishin and Irina Zhuravlyova. Director Irina Zhuravlyova and biologist Maria Romanskaya will discuss the film with their guests. After the screening, children can enjoy a treat from Cafe Pion and a lesson with a teacher at the TsEKh Center for Contemporary Dance.
The film tells the story of the first year in the life of several brown bears in the Shpilenok Wildlife Preserve in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. This is 55 minutes of jaw-dropping beauty and unbelievably interesting life, with its own separate law and order established by nature itself.
Seven months of shooting and observation of several bear families allowed the creators to immerse audiences in the world of volcanoes, rivers, wild animals, and an atmosphere of natural equilibrium – which still exists on protected territory.
