Ten-year-old Mia moves to South Africa with her parents and brother, where the parents bought a lion farm. The girl finds nothing to be happy about in the new place, where she feels very foreign and alone. But one day, a real friend appears in her life, a white lion cub named Charlie. They grow together, and with each passing day, a strong bond grows between them. However, three years later, Mia gets awful news: Charlie is in danger. She then decides to run away and find a new home for her friend, where he can be happy and free. Together, the girl and the lion set off on a journey through the South African savannah, discovering the unique beauty of the Dark Continent.

In filming this warm-hearted and touching film inspired by a true story, director Gilles de Maistre invited the famous “Lion Whisperer,” zookeeper Kevin Richardson. Together, they organized an unprecedented filming schedule which lasted three years in total. Young actress Daniah De Villiers and the lion cub that played the role of Charlie truly grew together and were able to naturally and freely interact on set.
