The film describes the three "phases" of growing up for Chiron, a black teenager from the wrong side of Miami, during the rise of the drug trade. Painfully working through with his homosexuality, conflicts with his peers, and family drama, Chiron dwells in a torturous search for and attempts to accept himself.
