Margherita is a director. She makes a new film, counting on an invited Hollywood actor, an eccentric dandy but one who cannot remember the script. At the same time he is quite successful at entertaining the whole crew. It seems that everything goes to the dogs; Margherita leaves her partner; she argues with her daughter and even her ideal brother goes through a crisis. With this as the chaotic backdrop, Margherita’s mother quietly passes away. To her surprise, she learns that her mother was a wise and witty Latin teacher, one of several things she discovers about her mother’s rich life.
A touching dramedy from the classicist Nanni Moretti. This is a very intimate and tender autobiographical story about the director’s mother’s death during his work on the film “We Have a Pope”. “My Mother” was one of the favourites at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015.
