Dorante is a charming young man from a good family in financial trouble. His friend Dubois works for an intriguing widow, Araminte, with whom Dorante is hopelessly in love. Dubois helps his friend get close to Araminte as a household manager, and manages to tell the widow about the young man’s feelings. But social prejudice and family intrigue prevent a happy ending to this story.
A film adaptation of Pierre de Marivaux’s famous comedy, based on the production at Paris’ Odéon Theatre starring Isabelle Huppert and Louis Garrel.
