Simon Axler is an over-the-hill 70-year-old actor, who once was successful and famous. Anticipating the end of his career, he attempts suicide but ends up in a psychiatric hospital. After he leaves the clinic, he realises he can’t act any longer. But his life takes an unexpected turn as he begins an affair with young lesbian Pegeen, his old friend’s daughter. What awaits Simon: a new life and a return to stage or yet another humiliation?
Al Pacino and Greta Gerwig (“Frances Ha”) in a comedy drama directed by Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”). The film is based on a novel of the same name by Philip Roth, a ‘classic of skepticism’. It was screened at the Venice Film Festival.
