A family of Indian emigrants, whom fate threw to a small town in Provence, decides to open a café with oriental cuisine, just next to a famous restaurant «Weeping Willow», the bastion of French culinary traditions, whose owner, Madame Mallory is awfully proud that the Michelin catalogue has honoured her establishment with one star. The light disgust that Madame Mallory feels towards noisy neighbours and their exotic habits gradually gives place to belligerent attitude and later turns into the battle between two cultures.
Ethnical culinary comedy by Lasse Hallström («Chocolat», «What's Eating Gilbert Grape») about rivalry, but in the end — more about the fusion of two cultures — French and Indian. The film stars the brilliant Hellen Mirren (“The Queen”) and Charlotte Le Bon («Mood Indigo»/«L'écume des jours», «Yves Saint Laurent»). The movie is produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. Participant in the Locarno Film Festival.
