Erika is a professor at the Vienna Conservatory. Extraordinarily-talented teenagers get in line to take courses with the former child star pianist. She teaches young people the heavenly music of Schubert, though she herself is nowhere near as in harmony with the universe as her beloved music. When the self-confident amateur musician Walter Klemmer falls in love with her, she responds by making a list of her most shocking intimate fantasies that he must perform if he truly wants them to be together.
A masterpiece by the great Austrian director Michael Haneke, which in its day amassed a record number of prizes at Cannes, including Best Actress for Isabelle Huppert. The film is back in anticipation of the release of Haneke's new film, "Happy End."
