The new film ”Timur Novikov – Zero Object” is about art revolution in the 1980’s. It is dedicated to Timur Novikov – the artist and the key figure in St. Petersburg underground movement, a close friend and a fellow artist of Victor Tsoi, Sergey ”Africa” Bugaev, Georgiy Gurianov, Evgenii Kozlov and Vladislav Mamyshev-Monro.
Despite official Soviet art, Timur Novikov organised his own art environment. He founded the group “New artists,” that included young musicians, artists, composers and directors. They were united modern art, rock music and absolute inner freedom. Very soon the “New artists” became famous in Europe and America. Timur Novikov’s social circle included Andy Warhol, John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg.
Third documentary film in a series “Contemporary Art Anthology” by co-producers Eugeny Mitta и and Alexander Shein. This Anthology offers a new perspective on contemporary art history of Russia. The artists are participants of important social events, and their art reflects the social change.
