Every year, the Academy Awards are an exciting event for the cinema world. The “Top 5 Oscars” program includes five outstanding short films that were nominated for the prize. This year’s collection includes the Oscar-winning entry from 2019, films from the United Kingdom and Canada that were included on the short list, an animated film from the United States and the award winner from 2020.

1. Wale (Dir. Barnaby Blackburn, United Kingdom, 20 minutes)

An 18 year old youth offender is trying to get his own business going as a mechanic. But enterprise isn't so easy when you're a young, black male with a criminal past.

2. Fauve (Dir. Jeremy Comte, Canada, 17 minutes)

Set in a surface mine, two boys sink into a seemingly innocent power game with Mother Nature as the sole observer.

3. Weekends (Dir. Trevor Jimenez, United States, 16 minutes)

These surreal dream-like moments mix with the domestic realities of a broken up family for a young boy split between his two divorced parents.

4. Sin Cielo (Dir. Jianna Maarten, United States, 25 minutes)

Двое влюблённых подростков встречаются на границе США и Мексики, не в силах противиться чувствам друг к другу. К сожалению, в окружающем их мире царят жестокость и насилие, и любви здесь не место.

5. Skin (Dir. Guy Nattiv, United States, 20 minutes (gold medal, 2019)

In a small supermarket in a blue collar town, a black man smiles at a 10-year-old white boy across the checkout aisle. This innocuous moment sends two gangs into a ruthless war that ends with a shocking backlash.
