The film tells a story of Louis ‘Louie’ Zamperini — American trouble-maker, long-distance runner and Olympian in 1936, who managed to impress Hitler himself and whose sporting career was interrupted by the World War II. Louis became a pilot of the United States Army Air Force and was deployed in the Pacific, where he was sent to a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp. This is a story of resilience and survival of the American hero who managed to face his fate and overcame himself remaining unbroken.
This biopic is Angelina Jolie’s third directorial effort. The film is based on the real and dramatic biography of Louis Zamperini. The script, which is an adaptation of the best-selling book of the same name, was written by brothers Coen.
