In 1999, top student Celeste (Nathalie Portman) miraculously survived when one of her classmates brought a gun to school. In the wake of the tragedy, she wrote a song - and woke up a star. Her rapid rise to stardom, directed by an experienced manager (Jude Law) and fed by the public's thirst for tragedy, turned her into an international superstar. After 18 years, Celeste's career is in decline, and a scandal at a press conference threatens to destroy it completely. Now the stubborn star must deal with her personal and family problems without going crazy as she tries to maintain the thin boundary between fame and real life.
Vox Lux also features performances by Stacy Martin, star of Lars Von Trier's "Nymphomaniac," and young actress Raffey Cassidy, famous from “Tomorrowland,” “Allied” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.” The songs from Vox Lux, performed by Nathalie Portman herself, were written by SIA, and Brady Corbet, winner of the Horizons prize at the Venice Film Festival for “The Childhood of a Leader” (2015), directed and wrote the screenplay. The world premiere of Vox Lux also took place in Venice: the film took part in the film festival's main concourse in 2018.
